Hello, I'm Lisa-marie the founder of Creative Avenue, York.
After leaving a 20 year career as a secondary school Art Teacher, I volunteered at local pre-schools and community groups delivering workshops and sharing my passion for Art and Craft with others.
I was able to develop a wide range of workshops based purely on enjoyment and wellbeing rather than a curriculum. These proved to be very popular and I saw a need for people to come together and create.
I couldn't focus my passion for Art, Craft and Design into one area, as many 'avenues' had opened up to me, and so, Creative Avenue was born!
I discovered Mosaic Art at York Open Studios many years ago and was immediately hooked.
I soon had all the kit and was busy creating my own Mosaic Art just for the fun of it. I joined a local group - BAMM North - part of the British Association for Modern Mosaic, and was creating, exhibiting and selling my own work in no time.
Mosaic became an integral part of Creative Avenue and I teach several Mosaic Workshops including curriculum based Mosaic Workshops in schools.
I have always felt the wellbeing effects of creativity and, particularly since the unfortunate 'Lockdown' experience, more and more people seem to have realised the value of participating in creative activities and notice the many benefits it can bring. Peace, focus, escapism, mental wellbeing, connection to family & friends, meeting new people and participating in the community to name a few.
I feel very privileged to be in a position where I love what I do, and to be able to spend time creating with lovely people.
Thankyou for visiting, I hope you enjoy exploring .
